Nurses

LaCrecia Britton, RN, MSN, CRNP
CF Care Center Coordinator

I am a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, accredited in acute and primary care.  I have been a member of the CF team since 1991 and Center Coordinator since 2004.  I have given multiple oral presentations at national conferences including the annual North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference and I have several published articles on pulmonary care.  I enjoy singing, scrapbooking, and taking care of my two cats.

Theresa Rodgers, PNP

Kathy Bains, RN, CPN
Clinic Coordinator

I have been employed at Children's Hospital since 1977 after receiving my BSN in Nursing from UAB.  I have been working in the Pulmonary Division since 1978.  I am the Coordinator of the clinic.  When I began here as  the only CF nurse, we had 60 CF patients that we followed.  I have enjoyed being a part of this CF Center as it has now grown to more than 300 patients and families.  We now have 4 full-time clinic nurses and due to the clinic growth, I now manage staff and all activities in Clinic 6.  I enjoy the beach, gardening, reading and Alabama football.

Cathy Mims, RN, CPN
CF Outpatient Case Manager

I received my BSN at UAB in 1985.  My first experience at Children's Hospital was at that time when I worked on the infant-toddler unit for a year.  I left to gain more experience in other areas.  I worked in adult ICU, OB-Gyn, and then pediatric homecare and home infusion for 8 years.  I returned to Children's in 2000 and have worked in the Pulmonary Division since that time.  In my current role as CF outpatient nurse I work with the CF team to provide quality care to our patients.  I assist with outpatient planning and follow-up, inpatient education, research and quality improvement.  In my spare time I enjoy sewing, quilting, scrapbooking and many other crafts.

Dawn Knight, RN
Clinic Nurse

I received my AD from Jefferson State Junior College in 1981.  My past experience has been primarily Neonatal Intensive Care with some time spent in an OB-Gyn and a pediatricians office.  I had the pleasure of starting to work at Children's Hospital in the Pulmonary clinic in 2004.  I am enjoying my work in the Pulmonary Clinic and working with the patients.  In my spare time I enjoy sewing, quilting and spending time with my family.

Janet Brown, RN
Nurse Clinician

I received my ADN from Walker Jr. College in 1983.  I worked at Children's Hospital from 1988 until 2000 when I left to spend more time with my family.  I returned to Children's in 2004 and became a part of the Pulmonary division in 2008.  I have enjoyed becoming a part of the CF team.  Outside work, I enjoy the many activities of our three busy children.

Rebecca Thomas, RNC
Clinic Nurse

I received my Diploma in Nursing from St. Vincent's School of Nursing in 1979.  I worked at St. Vincent's Hospital for 10 years in Labor and Delivery and NICU, then 14 years in the Baptist Health System in NICU.  I came to Children's in 2003 to work in the Pulmonary Division.  My focus is with the BPD outpatient clinic.  I enjoy working with CF patients and families, as well as other general pulmonary patients.  Away from work I enjoy sewing, smocking and loving on grandchildren.

Karen McNider, RN, BSN

I received my BSN from UAB in 1980.  My nursing experiences include post-op open heart surgery at UAB, 10 years in NICU at Brookwood Hospital, working in a pediatrician's practice, and 11 years in the Diabetes Division at Childrens Hospital.  I received and maintained certification as a diabetes educator, insulin pump trainer and glucose sensor trainer.  Since September, 2006, I have worked with the Pulmonary Division.  My work includes asthma and general pulmonary patient care.  Away from work, I enjoy my family, flyfishing, skiing and gardening.
